On TKI-open
In 2002, on the line of intersection between cultural policy and service-oriented work, sponsorship TKI open could be realized. Since then, TKI open has been one of the central projects of TKI. In co-operation with the government of Tyrol, TKI has designed this patronage with explicit focus on the field of contemporary culture. TKI open offers personal freedom for artistic experiments and for dealing with cultural, social and political questions with the possibilities of contemporary art and culture.
TKI open is financed by the government of Tyrol and is announced every year with a main topic selected by TKI. Concept and organisation of TKI open lie exclusively with TKI.
The following fields of culture are supported by TKI open:
- experimental, contemporary art
- general cultural projects which are not sufficiently taken into consideration in patronage programs already existing
- proportionately designed cultural projects
- co-operation between cultural initiatives and artists or representatives of other fields
- projects allowing variety of opinion by establishing (counter)publicity off the mainstream and providing space for fringe positions
TKI’s basic matters of concern are also reflected in the way TKI open handles them: Procedure distinguishes itself by a high degree of transparency. The jury changes every year, and in a public meeting appropriate projects are selected according to clear criteria. This procedure underlines the demand of TKI for utmost transparency in allocating money. Every year TKI invites an artist to design the public announcement, who is expected to refer in his artistic work to the announced subject.
Jury:
The jury of 5 persons is appointed anew every year. TKI chooses the jury members according to the following points of view: Projects from all fields of art and crossover projects are submitted to TKI open. The members of the jury reflect the intention of TKI open. They constitute a well-balanced mixture of men and women, of persons who know Tyrol’s cultural scene, and of those who contribute an unbiased “view from outside”.
Timetable of TKI open:
Projects are announced by TKI open in spring; deadline of application is in autumn. At the November meeting of the jury projects are selected so that they can be realized in the following year. Throughout this period TKI serves as advisory contact organisation for the selected projects.
Who is allowed to apply for projects?
All non-profit cultural initiatives and work groups of the autonomous cultural scene as well as artists.
